Austria Secures Advantage in European Qualification Bid

Vienna, Austria - FK Austria Wien has taken a significant step towards securing a spot in next season's UEFA Europa Conference League after defeating TSV Hartberg 2-1 in the first leg of the play-off final on Wednesday, May 24, 2024.

In a closely fought encounter at the Generali Arena in Vienna, Austria opened the scoring in the 25th minute through a clinical finish from striker Marko Raguz. Hartberg equalized just before halftime courtesy of an opportunistic header from defender Mario Sonnleitner.

However, Austria regained the lead in the 58th minute when midfielder Dominik Prokop pounced on a loose ball in the Hartberg penalty area and fired home the winner. The home side held on resolutely for the remaining 30 minutes to secure a narrow but crucial advantage heading into the second leg.

The second leg of the play-off final will take place at Hartberg's Profertil Arena on Sunday, May 28, 2024. Austria will be aiming to hold on to their lead and book a spot in the prestigious European competition, while Hartberg will hope to turn the tables and secure their own place on the continental stage.
